PCB Assembly - Axial and Radial PTH

Despite the rapid advances in surface mount technology (SMT), the requirement for conventional through hole and mixed technology PCB assembly is still required and as a number of our customers still have legacy products that continue to make use of older PTH technology, we have retained our equipment, enabling us to offer customers additional flexibility.

Axial insertion consists of dual head/anvil VCD systems controlled by board error correction (BEC).

Axiom’s radial equipment employs a conventional guide-pin system and clinch detection to enable 2.5mm, 5mm and selectable centre pin for transistor insertion.

Both axial and radial component insertion is programmed by TIMMS technology ensuring the highest levels of efficiency and build standard control are achieved.

  • Large-large printed circuit board size capability
  • Dual head/anvil VCD axial placement
  • 5mm to 20mm pitch axial insertion
  • 40,000 cph – axial s/component
  • 2.5mm & 5mm pitch radial insertion
  • 10,000 cph – radial s/component

Conversion to SMT

If you have a legacy product and would like to benefit from the advantages that surface mount technology offers, we in-conjunction with our design partners can look at how to convert your existing through hole design to surface mount.

By carefully considering your objectives and design goals along with any potential pitfalls, we can can set realistic expectations as to the time, effort and budget required for a successful conversion.  We will also look at compliance impacts ensuring that current regulations and standards are taken into account.
