Axiom scooped the top prize in the environmental category beating off competition from entrants that operate on a global basis, including Ericsson. The company was commended for its programme to cut carbon emissions by 40% over the last three years and its innovative approach to making cost savings through environmental practises in its procurement policy.

The Elektra Awards are judged by a panel of respected electronics industry professionals from across Europe including representatives from Electronics Weekly magazine and Intellect, the industry body representing electronics manufacturing.

Managing director of Axiom, David Davies, said: “The green agenda and becoming more environmentally aware is a key area of focus for our business going forward. Winning this award puts us in the same league as some other major European electronics businesses which is a real compliment.

“We have just completed our financial year and look set to achieve 10 – 15% growth on 2010’s figures of £17.5million turnover thanks to increasing demand for our printed circuit board and box build products. It’s clear that not only does adopting a more environmentally friendly approach make us more socially aware it also makes excellent business sense.”

The Elektra Award win follows Axiom’s success in the green manufacturing category in the 2010 E-Legacy Awards.

Axiom has the environmental management standard ISO 14001 and was one of the first SMEs in Wales to achieve the Green Dragon level 5 environmental accreditation in 2003.
